More than 50 Southwest Authors will be in Silver City Oct. 2-4

Southwest Festival of the Written Word

September 24, 2015 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, Emily Guerra meets with Southwest Festival of the Written Word Co-Chair and Publicity Chair, Jeannie Miller. She has been involved with the Festival since its inception six years ago, and tells us why it is important for the community: “because, you know, readers need writers, and writers need readers. And a  community if it doesn’t read, it’s lacking something. And so, for the community it’s a chance for readers to meet writers and find out that they are people too, and they aren’t necessarily magic creatures, and it’s also a chance for writers to mingle with readers and to mingle with other writers.”

The Southwest Festival of the Written Word brings readers and writers together every two years in Silver City. The first festival was held in 2013 with several authors from Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. This year the 2nd festival will be held Friday through Sunday, October 2-4, in historic downtown Silver City, and will again welcome over 50 award-winning Southwest authors of fiction and non-fiction, poetry and electronic literature, and theater. They will share stories about their lives and their craft, and also have their books available. It is an event for all ages; no registration is required to attend; all events except the banquet are free of charge. For more information and schedule visit www.swwordfiesta.org.
