Berino – Dona Ana County Sheriff's Investigators earlier this afternoon arrested and charged ERICA SIGALA, age 26, of the 120 block of Feathergrass Road, Berino, with one count of First Degree Child Abuse - Intentional (Resulting in Death or Great Bodily Harm).
According to Sheriff's Investigators, on July 5, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Central Dispatch received a call that a one year old child, male, was not breathing.
The child was airlifted to University Medical Center with severe brain injury.
The child has since been placed in Critical Care and diagnosed with a "severe non-accidental brain injury."
The child has remained in a coma since arriving to the hospital on July 5.
The Victim's other three siblings, whose ages are two, three and five, have been placed with other family members.
SIGALA is currently being detained in the Dona Ana County Detention Center under a $100,000.00 Cash Bond.
