The New Mexico Supreme Court has upheld a man's murder conviction in a killing during a 2010 armed robbery at a highway rest stop.
The justices issued their ruling Monday in a case stemming from the killing of Adam Espinoza in Dona Ana County.
The court upheld Irvin Ramirez's conviction for felony murder and a number of other crimes but overturned his conviction for armed robbery.
The court said the armed robbery conviction couldn't stand because convictions for that crime and felony murder violated his rights against double jeopardy.
Espinoza was robbed after he stopped to sleep in his car on a drive from Texas to California.
