Nachison: Why Sanders Is Attracting Support

Senator Bernie Sanders

  There is a real choice for Americans in 2016. Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders makes good sense: "Let us wage a moral and political war against the billionaires and corporate leaders, on Wall Street and elsewhere, whose policies and greed are destroying the middle class of America."

Where is real coverage of this most honest and unique presidential candidate of recent times? National corporate news has yet to give Senator Sanders an in-depth examination as a presidential candidate. He is more than just attracting crowds. These crowds — including many youngsters and young adults — see a coming reality; their livelihoods being either lost or chipped away.

Sanders stands for we, the people, not corporate and related interests. Senator Sanders is a candidate who speaks to the working, middle classes and the poor of this nation.

He provides a reality check for us all. Grassroots organizing and fundraising are the means, not corporate or PAC dollars and shills.

Senator Sanders addresses real issues. E.g., he wants to ensure:

• health care for all; replacing the interbred medical/pharmaceutical/insurance system with single payer. We are the only developed nation without it; our health care is the most expensive on the planet. The World Health Organization ranks us 37th.

• the break-up of banks too big to fail. Clean up Wall Street.

• paid parental or family leave for 12 weeks. The United States and Papua New Guinea are the only nations without a paid national parental leave statute. Just three states address this.

• employers provide 10 days paid leave annually.

• unlimited payola to political campaigns is ended by a constitutional amendment;

• legislation to repair our crumbling infrastructure and provide thousands of jobs.

There is much more. Americans are now noticing the good senator. They should listen.
