National Group Aiding N.M. Democratic Legislators

A Democratic Party group that focuses on legislative races reports spending about $57,000 in New Mexico during the past three weeks.

According to a campaign finance report filed Thursday, the national Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has a New Mexico committee that contributed $5,200 to each of 11 political organizations in the state, including those affiliated with House Speaker Ken Martinez and House Majority Leader Rick Miera.

All 70 House seats are up for election. Democrats hold a 37-33 majority, but Republicans hope they can make gains and win control of the House.

Another national group — the Republican Governors Association — reported spending almost $34,000 on polling in New Mexico, where Gov. Susana Martinez is seeking re-election. The RGA contributed $100,000 late last year to its New Mexico organization.
