Nationwide Warrant Issued For Las Cruces Area Man

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say a nationwide warrant has been issued for a man wanted on charges of residential burglary, auto theft, stalking and larceny.

On May 22, 2012, Ernest Bryan Barela, 31, was on probation for a 2008 child abuse conviction when he allegedly forced his way into a home where his former girlfriend was living. He reportedly took the keys to her car and drove off in the vehicle.

Barela is believed to still be driving the car, described as an orange 2012 Dodge Journey SUV with New Mexico license plate 229RLN. He could also be driving a 2003 Chevy Malibu with New Mexico license plate GLN515 with possible body damage to the right front end.

On May 29, 2012 the New Mexico Probation and Parole Division issued an arrest order for Barela, revoking his probation with no bond.

A Magistrate warrant was also issued for Barela’s arrest on May 8, 2012 for two counts of assault and battery, with a bond of $2,500 cash.

Investigators believe Barela is still in the Doña Ana County area, and was last seen on May 30, 2012 in Las Cruces.

Anyone with information on Barela’s whereabouts is asked to call the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department, (575) 525-8806.
