District 3 Councilor Gabe Vasquez, community leaders, neighborhood leaders, and community police officers are participating in a Neighborhood Safety Walk at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7 that will start at the north parking lot (Nevada Street side) at Lynn Middle School, 950 S. Walnut.
“We want to show the community that their neighbors care about the neighborhood and show solidarity against crime,” said Vasquez. “This is a great way for us to build community and trust, and for everyone to be part of the solution.”
The route for the walk is just more than a mile, and starts at Lynn Middle School. It travels west on Nevada, north on Lees, west on Colorado, south on Luna and east to Nevada and back to the school or to the Young Park parking lot. Anyone unable to walk the route, can check out the festivities that are planned at the Young Park parking lot.
The Las Cruces Police Department’s Mobile Operations Command (MOC) – The MOC will be stationed in the Young Park parking lot starting at noon June 7, and will be open continuously through June 8 and 9, closing at 9 p.m. June 10. Residents are encouraged to stop by anytime to talk with officers and share any concerns they may have and check out the MOC and activities. The MOC will feature the Bike Rodeo, Ident-A-Child, and the Victims Assistance Unit.
City Departments will have table booths available between 7:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at the Young Park parking lot, including Parks and Recreation, Water Conservation, Utilities Customer Service, the City Library and more. These groups will have information about services and programs and will be able to answer any questions.
People also will have a chance to meet Little Libby, the City’s mascot for recycling. Libby stands for “Las Cruces Is Beautiful Because of You” and supports the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful program. Libby the Dog visits third graders and educates them on the benefits of recycling. Come meet Libby from 7-8 p.m.Thursday, June 7 and at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the MOC at Young Park parking lot.
And finally, The City of Las Cruces is providing a dumpster from June 7-10 for a Neighborhood Clean Up. This is the time to gather up any trash accumulated and place it in the dumpster. The location of the dumpster is south of Lynn Middle School off Lester Avenue.
