The nephew of a woman whose body was found in Bernalillo County is dead following an 8-hour SWAT situation.
The Albuquerque Journal reports Sgt. Aaron Williamson says the body of 65-year-old Ignacia Saiz was found Sunday by family members who say she had a gunshot wound to the head.
They say she'd gone to Pajarito Mesa to reclaim a camper from her son and nephew, 45-year-old Edward Jaramillo.
She was unaware her son was in jail at the time.
Williamson says a standoff ensued when Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office detectives went to a property where Saiz's nephew was staying to question him and serve a warrant related to his failure to register as a sex offender in Colorado.
Court records say Jaramillo was convicted of the sexual assault of a child.
Williamson says deputies gained access to the property and found Jaramillo had shot himself.
Property owner 66-year-old A.B. Swanson was arrested on suspicion of harboring a felon.
