Las Cruces, NM – A consistent population growth of around twenty percent along with an increase in new telephone numbers is forcing New Mexico to adopt a new area code, in order to cope with the additional lines. Now, Public Regulation Commissioners are visiting constituents, to figure out who will get the new 575 area code. As KRWG's Marco Grajeda reports, a proposed geographic split may divide New Mexicans, and PRC commissioner Shirley Baca says the southern half could have to make the change.
