New Equipment and Ambulances Provided for Truth or Consequences and Sierra County

USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner announced today they will support Sierra Vista hospital with a $116,230 grant for the purchase of two new ambulances. USDA Rural Development will also provide a grant of $81,810 to the City of Truth or Consequences’ Streets Department for the purchase of a new front end loader.

Sierra Vista Hospital will use the two new ambulances to replace their current vehicles that have high mileage and mechanical problems.  Sierra Vista Hospital provides emergency medical service for all of Sierra County and ambulance service is crucial to their critical access hospital.  The City of Truth or Consequences will use the funds to replace their 1993 Cat Loader, which is suffering major mechanical problems.  The new front end loader will help with street repair, filling wash-outs after storms and clearing brush.

USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner commented on today’s award, “Today’s recipients are making much needed vehicle purchases which will help them better serve their customers.” Brunner added, “USDA is happy to continue to partner with our rural communities that are working hard to improve their community sustainability and provide needed services.”

The funding is part of the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities program which provides grant and loan funds to rural communities for essential community facilities and equipment.

For those non-profits and public entities interested in accessing the program visit USDA’s website at www.usda.gov or call the Rural Development State Office in Albuquerque at 505-761-4950.

President Obama’s plan for rural America has brought about historic investment and resulted in stronger rural communities. Under the President’s leadership, these investments in housing, community facilities, businesses and infrastructure have empowered rural America to continue leading the way – strengthening America’s economy, small towns and rural communities. USDA’s investments in rural communities support the rural way of life that stands as the backbone of our American values.
