New Exhibits at the Las Cruces Museums in April

Branigan Cultural Center, Las Cruces

Both the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N Main St., and the Las Cruces Museum of Art,  491 N. Main St.,will have new exhibits opening Friday, April 7. Branigan Cultural Center will host Wolves and Wild Lands in the 21st Century and the Museum of Art will host the All-City High Schools Senior Show 2017. A reception will be held in conjunction with the First Friday Ramble from 5 – 7 p.m. at both museums.

The All-City High Schools Senior Show 2017 will last for only one-week, through Saturday, April 15.

The exhibition will feature works in a broad variety of art media and culinary arts. Participating artists are graduating seniors from Las Cruces-area high schools: Las Cruces High, Mayfield, Onate, Centennial, and Alma d’Arte. Awards will be juried by Las Cruces artists Terry Wolfe and Georjeanna Feltha. An awards presentation will take place at the reception on April 7.

Wolves and Wild Lands in the 21st Century was created by the International Wolf Center in collaboration with the Science Museum of Minnesota, and travelled by the Bell Museum of Natural History. The exhibit explores the uncertain future of wolves in a world increasingly dominated by humans.

The story of wolves in North America takes us to many places, from the Arctic to the Southwestern United States. For every region where wolves thrive – or struggle to survive – cultural and economic pressures continue to shape their existence. Challenges such as habitat destruction, wolves killing livestock, and the hunting and trapping of wolves is addressed through mounts of wolf specimens from across North America accompanied by panels with engaging pictures, maps, and text.

Admission is free to the Las Cruces Museums. They are open from10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit the website atmuseums.las-cruces.org.

If you need an accommodation for a disability to enable you to fully participate in this event, please contact the museum 48 hours prior to the event.
