New Farm Service Agency Leader For New Mexico To Take Office

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has appointed a new leader to oversee farm policy in New Mexico.

Molly Manzanares will take office Monday as state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in New Mexico.

The Farm Service Agency implements federal farm policy as directed by Congress. It also helps facilitate income support, disaster assistance and operating loans for obtaining farm equipment.

Manzanares will supervise all aspects of federal farm program delivery for an agency that employs near 1,700 people.

USDA officials say Manzanares has served as a member of the New Mexico Farm Service Agency State Committee since September of 2001.

They say she also grew up in New Mexico as part of a cattle ranching family.

She and her husband run their own sheep ranching operation.
