New Food Bank Operator In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – An Albuquerque-based group is taking over food bank operations for four counties in southern New Mexico.

The Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico handed over the operations to Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico with Thursday's announcement that Roadrunner will do food distribution throughout Dona Ana, Grant, Luna and Hidalgo counties.

Food will be distributed from a Las Cruces warehouse.

Roadrunner spokeswoman Sonya Warwick says the organization hopes to distribute 500,000 pounds of food in the first months of 2011.

Warwick says the community action group held the subcontract for distribution in the four counties, but asked Roadrunner to take it over so the agency could focus on its other missions.

Roadrunner already distributes food in 12 other New Mexico counties.
