Only two months president, Dr. Garrey Carruthers was invited on stage at the 2013 opening convocation at New Mexico State University.
On the edge of the NMSU campus, all the signs say “Welcome Aggies” right now. But Dr. Carruthers wants to introduce a new theme that he says is all about discovery.
“It was great to express a message about the university going forward and I think our new tagline, ‘It’s all about discovery’ is exactly on point….it makes it natural for New Mexico State to be all about discovery.”
Only faculty filled the seats, but Carruthers spoke to an issue on every student’s mind – tuition.
“Cost of degrees and certificates…we’re just below UTEP…we need to also make sure that we can afford to give our students the best education possible.”
Before the convocation drew to a close, Carruthers, the former dean of the College of Business, had one last order of business he wanted to take care of with faculty.
“So if y’all would mind…on Fridays…you would put on your Aggie gear…”
