New Mexico Democratic Party Unity

With the end of the Democratic primary getting closer, Hillary Clinton is leading Bernie Sanders in the delegate Count, and Bernie Supporters who attended his rally in Vado, New Mexico have mixed opinions if they would support Clinton in the general.

“I’d definitely support Hillary,” Anthony Martinez said.  “I think she’s a good candidate, I think she’s great, but let’s try Bernie first. He’s the best.”

“I don’t know,” Devin Packer said. “I still haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet.”

“More than likely not,” Valentin Becerra said. “Unless she adopts Bernie Sanders’ campaign, that’s the only way I’ll support her. Cause she’s not trustworthy right now as it is.”

“Whoever the democratic nominee is I’ll support,” Brandy Bordelon said.

“I would not vote,” Daniel Wirth said.

“No,” Steven Rhodes said. “Absolutely, absolutely not. Bernie or bust and otherwise I go Green Party with Jill Stein.”

“If Bernie doesn’t win, definitely yeah,” Mario Sauceda said. “It definitely would be Hillary the next one in line, I really want Bernie to win.”

“I’m going to go Bernie till the end,” Itzel Payan said. “If he doesn’t get that nomination, I’m just going to be trying to do a write-in get as many people as I can probably to go in and try and do that cause you never know.”

New Mexico State Democratic Party Chair Debra Haaland says she believes the party will rally together against Trump after the convention.

“We have a history of unifying,” Haaland said. “Once we get to the convention and we have our nominee. It happened in 2008 with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. It’s happened throughout history that the democratic party come together to support our nominee.”

Haaland says she admires the strong support people have for their candidates.

“You know it’s hard for supporters to say,” Haaland said. “When their candidate is still in the race to think about if my candidate loses will I support someone else. So, I totally understand that and I admire so much supporters who are very loyal to their candidate because that’s what we really count on in the Democratic Party.”

The New Mexico State Democratic Party will remain neutral until after the primary on June 7th, Haaland says after that it is up to party leaders to unify the state for the party’s nominee.
