New Mexico Department of Transportation Announces Online Survey for State Rail Plan

Santa Fe, NM – Today, the New Mexico Department of Transportation announced the availability of an online survey to find out which railroad issues are important to New Mexicans and for providing input to update the State Rail Plan. The survey is accessible through this link.

The 2018 Rail Plan will explore these issues to identify potential solutions. The updated Rail Plan will also describe the current state of New Mexico’s rail system, articulate a strategic vision for the future of the rail system, and identify projects and funding sources to support that vision.

NMDOT encourages anyone with an interest in freight and passenger rail transportation in New Mexico to participate in the online survey. NMDOT Staff are also making presentations to the State’s Municipal Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional Transportation Organizations (RTPOs) to solicit input for the Rail Plan. The presentation schedule and the previous Rail Plan are available on the NMDOT Transit and Rail web page, here.

States must update their state rail plans every four years. It is recommended that any rail project that seeks Federal funds be identified in the rail plan. The Department anticipates that the development of the rail plan will continue for eighteen months, concluding in the fall of 2018.
