New Mexico Educators Hold "Early Vote" Events Thursday

Commentary: Thursday October 27, 2016 educators across New Mexico participate in EDUCATORS VOTE EARLY events sponsored by NEA-New Mexico.   Educators are invited to gather in public places to create public awareness of the importance for New Mexico’s public school students of this election.

“This election will have a tremendous and long-lasting impact on our students and public schools in New Mexico,” says NEA New Mexico President Betty Patterson. “We need the community, voters, and especially the politicians to see our collective determination to solve some of the major problems limiting opportunities for student success in our public schools.”

“We have more students facing difficult challenges with fewer teachers and financial resources to meet those challenges,” adds Patterson. “New Mexico’s children and families deserve great public schools.’

Mary Parr Sanchez, NEA-NM Vice President adds: "Educators need to vote and use their muscle to get candidates elected who support the children in New Mexico.  Conditions for children have gone from bad to worse, not the direction we should be moving.  Use your vote to express your frustration.  Vote for Education Friendly Candidates!!"

Through its political action committee, “EdPAC,” NEA-New Mexico has endorsed a number of candidates for statewide office, including Maggie Toulouse Oliver for Secretary of State, Michael Vigil for the NM Supreme Court and Julie Vargas for NM Court of Appeals.
