New Mexico Father Sentenced For Role In Daughter's Death

A Mescalero man convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of his 6-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 37 months in prison.

Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Nathaniel Chee III was sentenced Tuesday in Las Cruces. Chee will be on supervised release for three years once he finishes his prison sentence.

Authorities say Chee allowed his daughter to ride on the running board of his pickup truck as he was driving on a dirt road on the Mescalero Apache Reservation on Oct. 3, 2010.

The girl fell from the running board and was killed when the truck ran over her.

Prosecutors say Chee admitted during his plea hearing earlier this year that he had been drinking prior to the accident.
