New Mexico Film Foundation Grants Available

  Santa Fe- Today Dirk Norris, Executive Director of the New Mexico Film Foundation announced the availability of two $5000 grants for New Mexico filmmakers and screenwriters. Submissions for the second annual Lockheed Martin Filmmaker grant will open on July 1st and require the submission of a one page treatment for a film idea with the theme of the emotional impact of deep space travel. The winner of this grant will receive $5000 to make a 3-8 minute movie.
 
The second grant is the George R. R. Martin Screenwriters grant. Submissions will open on July 4thand require a 5 page treatment and a 5 page script sample in the Sci Fi or Fantasy genre. Scripts must be for a feature length film or hour long TV pilot. Screenwriters must not be members of the Writers Guild of America.
 
Submission details for both grants can be found on the New Mexico Film Foundation website athttp://www.nmfilmfoundation.org/grants/  Submissions are open to any New Mexico resident.
 
“We are very happy to offer these two grants again this year,” said Norris. “The success of the Lockheed Martin grant last year, resulted in the Lockheed folks announcing the availability of the grant for a second year. And to have someone with George R. R. Martin’s stature supporting us by offering an annual screenwriting grant is very exciting for us.”
 
There were 30 submissions for the first Lockheed Martin grant and winner Michael Becker’s film “Delivery From Earth” was shown during events at the launch of the Orion Space Craft.
 
Kevin Atkinson from Santa Fe was selected out of over 100 submissions to receive the George RR Martin grant last year and was awarded $5000 to develop his script idea.
 
The mission of the New Mexico Film Foundation is to strengthen, grow and support the New Mexico independent film industry while offering financial assistance and educational opportunities for New Mexico independent filmmakers.
