New Mexico Forecast: Winds, Snow, Freezing Temps

A fast-moving winter storm is slamming parts of New Mexico with snow, gusty winds and freezing temperatures.  The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued winter storm and wind warnings for the northeastern corner of the state and parts of east-central New Mexico.

Forecasters say damaging winds in excess of 60 mph are expected in some parts and the snow will likely become more persistent over the northern mountains through the night.

Snow has already started to accumulate in the northeast highlands and far northeast plains.

State transportation crews say they're monitoring the conditions and are ready with plows and salt and sand spreaders.

Temperatures are expected to drop Tuesday, but the state will dry out. Forecasters say a few high-elevation snow showers are possible Christmas Day in northwestern New Mexico.
