New Mexico To Gain More Alternative Fuel Vehicles

New Mexico has been awarded $500,000 in federal funding as part of a national project that aims to get states ready for more alternative fuel cars and trucks.  The U.S. Department of Energy announced the funding Tuesday. New Mexico is one of 17 states to be awarded funds as part of the Clean Cities initiative.

New Mexico's Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department will use its share to streamline permitting and zoning for alternative fuel infrastructure. The agency will also expand safety and training initiatives for compressed natural gas and propane vehicles.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu says American families and businesses will have more options if the U.S. can build a clean and secure transportation system that leverages domestic sources.
