New Mexico Gas Restoring Service

By KRWG News

New Mexico – New Mexico Gas Co. workers were making slow progress Saturday restoring service to about 32,000 customers who were cut off because of a shortage.

Gas company spokeswoman Monica Hussey says only about 1,400 customers had their gas turned back on as of midmorning. Crews from other states and licensed contractors were helping gas company crews with the huge job.

The gas company says service should be restored in Alamogordo, Bernalillo and Placitas by late Saturday, and in Tularosa and La Luz by late Sunday. Residents of Espanola, Taos, Questa and Red River should see service restored by Monday. Hussey called the planned schedule "challenging."

A deep freeze that hit the state at midweek caused demand to soar and the gas company was unable to provide enough gas to the state.
