New Mexico Gets Grant For Crime Victims
Efforts to support victims of domestic violence in New Mexico will be getting a boost thanks to a $2.8 million federal grant.
The U.S. Department of Justice is awarding the funding to New Mexico through the Office for Victims of Crime.
The money will go to the state's Crime Victims Reparation Commission. Formed in 1981, the commission can help with everything from funeral and burial expenses to medical care and mental health counseling in the wake of a crime.
Federal officials say millions of dollars are invested each year in victim compensation and assistance in every state and territory.
The grant awarded to New Mexico was recently announced by Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman.
