New Mexico Irrigation District Names New Chief Executive

The Bureau of Reclamation's top official in New Mexico will have a new job starting next year.

Mike Hamman will serve as the next chief engineer and chief executive of the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. His appointment was announced Monday by the irrigation district.

Hamman has more than three decades of engineering and water resources management experience.

As area manager at the Bureau of Reclamation, he has overseen the operation of diversion dams and reservoirs, water modeling and accounting projects and has helped implement endangered species programs.

Hamman also worked as a regional water planner for the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission and as water utility director for the city of Santa Fe.

He will replace Subhas Shah, who is retiring. He will begin his new duties Jan. 19.
