New Mexico Jobless Rate Rises

New Mexico's unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in August, up from 6.6 percent in July and down from 7 percent in August 2013.

The state Department of Workforce Solutions said Friday that New Mexico's economy gained 4,600 jobs from August 2013 in the third straight month of over-the-year increases after eight months of year-over-year losses.

Education and health services led all sectors with an increase of 6,100 jobs or 5 percent since last year, while manufacturing had the largest over-the-year losses, down 3,000 jobs, or 10 percent.

Overall, seven economic sectors gained jobs while six lost jobs.
