New Mexico Offers Free Fishing On Saturday

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The Department of Game and Fish says anglers can enjoy a freebie in New Mexico on Saturday.

No license or stamps will be required for New Mexicans and out-of-state residents to fish on public waters. However, other fishing rules and bag limits still apply.

The free fishing is offered in celebration of National Fishing Day on Saturday.

The department also will conduct free clinics across the state to provide instruction on fishing, such as how to tie knots, bait a hook and correctly release a fish.

Clinics will be held at Santa Cruz Lake near Espanola, Tingley Beach in Albuquerque, Riverwalk Pond in Grants, Grindstone Reservoir near Ruidoso, Alumni Pond in Las Cruces, Lake Roberts and Bill Evans Lake near Silver City in southwestern New Mexico and at Roswell's Walmart Super Center, which will have a portable swimming pool with catfish.
