New Mexico Oil Division To Get New Director

New Mexico's Oil Conservation Division will be getting a new director at the start of the year.

The state announced the appointment of David Catanach earlier this week. He'll be filling the position left vacant by the recent retirement of Jami Bailey.

Catanach has worked as a regulatory consultant in the private sector for the past several years. Before that, he worked for the division as a field inspector and later as a petroleum engineering specialist and a hearing examiner.

Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Secretary F. David Martin says Catanach has a great deal of experience when it comes to conducting public hearings and drafting recommendations on various types of oil and gas applications.

The division enforces the state's oil and gas statutes, permits new wells and gathers data on production.
