New Mexico Promotes "511" Road Conditions Phone Number

By KRWG News

New Mexico – New Mexico Transportation Secretary Gary L.J. Giron is urging New Mexico residents to "know before you go" this holiday weekend by calling 511 for travel information.

Giron says the system launched about three years ago has proved to be a quick and easy way for travelers to gather traffic and weather information.

He's encouraging travelers to use it during the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend.

The free 511 service is available on traditional landline telephones and on cell phones.

The service provides instant access to weather-related road conditions, construction and congestion information.

The hot line also allows callers to access road information for the surrounding states of Arizona, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma.

Since New Mexico's system was launched in 2008, it has received more than 1.16 million calls.
