New Mexico Set To Release Grades For Public Schools

New Mexico educational officials are set to release grades for the state's public schools a year after the number of schools graded an A or B dropped 10 percent.

The New Mexico Public Education Department is scheduled on Wednesday to unveil grades a week following the release of student test results. Those results showed a slight increase in the number of students testing proficient or better in reading and math.

Last year, the number of New Mexico schools receiving a D or F jumped 3 percent.

Education Secretary Hanna Skandera said the decrease in A and B school grades last year were expected because the state had introduced a more rigorous test to measure students.
