Enedina García Vázquez, a professor in the Counseling & Educational Psychology Department of New Mexico State University’s College of Education, has been named the college’s associate dean of academic affairs.
“I’m very excited to be working with our new dean, Donald Pope-Davis,” Vázquez said. “I look forward to working with students and faculty to develop new programs and new initiatives to advance the mission of the College of Education.”
Vázquez has extensive administrative and leadership experience. In the past, she has served as associate dean and deputy director of the Physical Science Laboratory, associate dean of the Graduate School, associate director of the Honors College and training director of the School Psychology Program.
She serves as chair of the National Association of School Psychologists Program Accreditation Board and was recently elected as the new incoming president of Division 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity, and Race) of the American Psychological Association. Pope-Davis said Vázquez has developed important relationships campuswide, throughout the state and across the nation.
“Her well-rounded experiences in special education, school psychology and public school teaching will be a great asset to the College of Education,” Pope-Davis said. “I believe that the College of Education will be the beneficiary of Dr. Vazquez’s breadth of experience and she will be a excellent collaborator as we engage our community in new and different ways.”
Vázquez’s research interests include social/cultural/emotional factors and academic success; acculturation in children and adolescents; assessment strategies with diverse populations; and intervention techniques
