New Veterans Exhbit

Silver City – A new exhibit opens Monday morning (7/27/09) at Western New Mexico University.

Often referred to as the forgotten war, Korean War veterans will be remembered at the Western New Mexico University Museum's new exhibit "The Korean War: Remembering the Forgotten."

A collection of military items and family heirlooms from Grant County residents ..the new exhibition has an opening reception Monday morning at 10 ..at the WNMU Museum.

The Keynote speaker for the reception is Luis Perez Ortega, who served in the Army from 1952 to 1954. A member of the 33rd Triple A Gun Battalion, Ortega was stationed at Fort Bliss. Korean War veterans who donated to the exhibit will be recognized from WNMU Museum Curator Phillip Cave.

The collection includes original photos, war-era magazines and publications, and military uniforms.

The WNMU Museum is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
