New Youth Services Campus Offers Alternative Programs

Robert Nuñez at KRWG FM studios.

August 14, 2015 – Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, Emily Guerra meets with Youth Services Administrator for the City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department, Robert Nuñez. He has been working with local youth at CLC Parks & Recreation for 16 years and is excited about the new Youth Services Campus in the Historic Mesquite District of Las Cruces. The campus will offer Summer Recreation, Safe Haven-Weed and Seed, the After School Program, and the Juvenile Citation Program. He says a big challenge in attracting teen customers, 12 to 17 years old, has been transportation. A Teen Mobile Unit was created to offer alternative programs for teenagers. The unit goes out to local parks and schools to bring recreation programs to different neighborhoods.

Another upgrade for customers of CLC Parks & Recreation is a new registration software, “e-Trak-plus.” It will be available on August 19th and will provide online registration for activities, classes and programs.

Families are invited to visit the new Youth Services Campus at an Open House on Friday evening, August 21st from 6 to 8 o’clock at 890 and 906 North Tornillo Street. For more information call (575)541-2550, or visit the City of Las Cruces website – www.las-cruces.org.
