NM Attorney General Eyes Audit Of Foreclosure Prevention Nonprofit

New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas

The New Mexico Attorney General's office says a nonprofit that helps people facing foreclosure is blocking efforts to see how it's spending public money.

The office sent a letter Tuesday to attorneys for the United South Broadway Corp. asking the nonprofit to give an accounting firm information needs for an audit.

The letter says the New Mexico Finance Authority has asked the nonprofit to account since January and United South Broadway has not provided the information.

Brian Thomas, an attorney for United South Broadway, says some of the information sought wasn't identified until last week and the nonprofit will meet with the accounting firm on Friday.

Thomas says other information had been sent to the attorney general's office over the last three years.
