NM County Tightens Procedures Following Lawsuit Over Pregnant Inmate

A lawsuit alleging that a guard at the Bernalillo County juvenile detention center got an inmate pregnant is prompting the county to move to tighten security at the facility.

County spokesman Andy Lenderman says stricter procedures for escorting prisoners have been put into place.

Meanwhile, County Commission Chairwoman Maggie Hart Stebbins says the county may purchase a surveillance system to reduce blind spots at the facility.

A lawsuit filed against the county and current and former officials contends a young woman got pregnant by a guard.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, the lawsuit says the guard told the inmate he wouldn't get caught because he knew what places in the detention center aren't covered by cameras.
