NM Creates Panel To Deal With Healthcare Reform

By KRWG News

New Mexico – New Mexico has formed a task force to consider how to implement provisions of a federal health insurance overhaul.

Superintendent of Insurance Morris Chavez said the group will meet monthly through October and submit recommendations to a legislative committee this fall.

Under the federal health care law, states can operate exchanges for some individuals and businesses to buy medical coverage or let the federal government do that. States also must deal with an expansion of Medicaid.

New Mexico's task force includes legislators and officials from state agencies, such as the Human Services Department.

Deborah Armstrong, executive director of the New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool, will serve as chairwoman of the group.
