New Mexico – New Mexico is offering residents a new way to check the credentials and background of investment advisers.
The state Securities Division has added a link to its www.protectYOURmoney.org website that accesses the Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website.
That gives residents access to information about people who work for money management, financial planning and other firms offering investment advice to clients.
The Securities Division's acting director, Michael Vargon, says the first thing in seeking investment advice is to know who you're dealing with.
He says the public disclosure database gives such information as professional qualifications, employment history and records of client complaints or disciplinary action.
The database includes more than 220,000 investment professionals nationwide.
