NM Delegates Urge Support Of Disaster Declaration

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Martinez made the request Wednesday, saying federal assistance would help the state recover from damages caused earlier this month by freezing temperatures and a natural gas outage that lasted for days.

The delegation sent a letter to the president Thursday. They wrote that families, businesses and public facilities were left without central heating because of the outage, first responders were stretched to the limit and frozen pipes caused significant damage to public buildings and water supply infrastructure.

The state's request for federal help aims to cover about $4.6 million in documented costs to governments and public infrastructure in several counties.
