NM Gets $1 Million To Help Combat Drunk Driving

By KRWG News

New Mexico – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRWG) The New Mexico Department of Transportation is getting a $1 million federal grant to help combat drunk driving.

U.S. Senator Tom Udall, a New Mexico Democrat, says the money is part of an incentive program by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that encourages states to enact and enforce laws and implement programs to combat drunk driving.

Udall says it was not long ago that New Mexico ranked first in the nation in alcohol related fatalities. Since then, he says, the state has tackled the problem head-on. The funding, he says, will help New Mexico sustain that progress and keep drunk drivers off New Mexico roads.
