NM Gets Stimulus Funds For Broadband

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The New Mexico State Library has been awarded more than $1.45 million in stimulus money to expand broadband technology and access across the state.

The "Fast Forward New Mexico" program wants to increase the adoption of broadband statewide and promote computer literacy and Internet use in rural, Hispanic and Native American populations.

The initiative is administered through a partnership with the University of New Mexico, Global Center for Cultural Entrepreneurship and the 1st-Mile Institute.

The funds were announced by the state's congressional delegation.

The program will hold small group training at libraries in 15 communities and will help first-time computer users. The State Library will also provide training in computer and Internet use for small organizations and business owners.
