NM Has Unclaimed Property At Fair

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Lost anything lately? The state Taxation and Revenue Department wants New Mexicans to recover $121 million in unclaimed property at a booth at the state fair.

Taxation and Revenue Secretary Rick Homans says the rightful heirs to the unclaimed property may not even realize it.

Homans says people can spend five minutes at the department's unclaimed property booth to determine if any property is theirs.

The department is holding cash, jewelry and other items that belong to 870,000 owners.

The property might have come from utility or insurance companies or banks, tax refund checks, bond payments and unclaimed wages.

The state also is holding jewelry, old coins, confederate currency and collector items abandoned in safety deposit boxes.
