NM jobless Rate Stuck At 8.7 Percent For February

By KRWG News

SANTA FE, N.M. – State labor officials say New Mexico lost 7,100 jobs between February 2010 and January 2011.

The Department of Workforce Solutions says February's numbers are disappointing because they show job recovery is taking longer than initially anticipated.

The department says mass layoffs are no longer the problem they once were, but the impetus for new job growth in any one industry or group of industries is still missing.

Among the industries that have seen growth are the education and health services sector, retail trade and mining.

The financial activities industry also gained about 400 jobs. That's after three years of job losses.
