NM Lifts Game Fish Limits At Lake Sumner

By KRWG News

New Mexico – FORT SUMNER, N.M. (KRWG) The Game and Fish Department is allowing anglers at Sumner Lake in east-central New Mexico to keep as many fish as they want as water levels drop to meet the needs of downstream irrigators.

The department on Friday lifted bag limits on sport fish such as bass, walleye and catfish. That will continue until early November or the lake's boat ramp is closed because water levels fall too low.

Other fishing rules and license requirements will remain in effect.

Lake Sumner is about 16 miles northwest of the community of Fort Sumner. The lake is on the Pecos River and was built in the 1930s for irrigation and flood control.
