NM Medicaid Promotes Electronic Records

By KRWG News

New Mexico – The New Mexico Human Services Department is promoting electronic health records for Medicaid.

Human Services Secretary Katie Falls says the state has a Medicaid incentive payment program designed to help Medicaid providers interested in implementing or upgrading an electronic system.

The incentive program, funded by federal stimulus money, is scheduled to be in operation by October.

Health care providers who reach a certain level in the use of electronic health records could qualify to receive up to $63,750 over five years.

The Human Services Department expects to submit its program plan to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services for approval this summer, and wants to assess how many providers plan to participate in the incentive program.
