NM Police Chief: Probe Shows No Cheating

State Police Chief Pete Kassetas says investigations into the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy have found no evidence of cheating.

Kassetas told The Associated Press late Tuesday that after state officials received two tips over possible cheating, investigations concluded that cadets were not getting answers right before taking exams.

He says cadets are given a practice test and go over material expected to be on exams but are not given "verbatim answers" for tests.

His comments come after KOB-TV reported that an anonymous letter from a group of cadets complained to Gov. Susana Martinez last year that cadets were getting answers from instructors before exams.

The academy faces scrutiny over recent proposed changes to its lesson plans critics say gives officers more leeway on using deadly force.
