New Mexico legislators report making progress in effects to agree on a funding plan for projects across the state.
Senate majority Democrats announced that they've agreed on a proposal presented by their lead negotiator, Sen. John Arthur Smith.
According to Senate Democrats, the proposal would provide funding for senior centers, higher education institutions, and tribal communities and includes a compromise on highway funding.
The Democrats' statement says the proposal is based on talks with Republican House Speaker Don Tripp, but there's no immediate indication whether majority House Republicans and Republican Gov. Susana Martinez also are on board.
Lawmakers failed to agree on a capital outlay bill during the regular session.
Talks since then have focused on trying to reach a compromise that could be approved during a special session.
