NM To Start Program For In-State Contractors

By KRWG News

New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) New Mexico contractors have a chance at getting a 5 percent bidding advantage under a new program with the state Taxation and Revenue Department.

Starting at the beginning of the year, contractors can obtain a valid resident business certificate or resident contractor certificate from the agency if they want a bidding advantage on state contracts.

State officials say this in-state preference won't apply to contracts that use federal funding.

Taxation and Revenue Secretary Demesia Padilla says the new certification process is aimed at stopping the abuse of in-state preference provisions.

She says it will also help New Mexico businesses and contractors to competitively bid for state contracts, and the agency will be able to more thoroughly screen in-state preference applications to determine if they're in compliance with paying property and other state taxes.
