New Mexico – The 2011 New Mexico State Fair will run for three weeks from Sept. 9 through Sept. 25.
The fair's interim manager, Dan Mourning, announced the dates Wednesday.
He says 4-H, other livestock competitions and horse shows will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Exact schedules will be announced later.
Mourning says the fair's carnival, galleries, exhibits, rodeos, entertainment and other events will run five days a week, Wednesdays through Sundays.
He says Mondays and Tuesdays are historically the slowest days for those areas, and closing them those two days will reduce costs.
Mourning says the fair receives no taxpayer funding, so it must find ways to keep costs down and customer service up.
Last year's New Mexico State Fair saw revenue increase nearly 14 percent over the previous year.
