The New Mexico State Fair kicks off next week and the opening day will feature a green chile cheeseburger competition among restaurants from across the state.
Fair officials said the cooking will start about 3:15 p.m. next Wednesday and that judging should happen about 4:45 p.m. in the Agriculture Building Courtyard at the fairgrounds in Albuquerque.
The contest winner is expected to be announced about 5:45 p.m. The 11 contestants are from Albuquerque, Ramah, Belen, Hatch, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Alamogordo, Grants and Espanola.
The state Tourism and Agriculture departments are hosting the competition.
The State Fair runs for 12 days, closing Sept. 22.
