NM Taking Part In National Study

By KRWG News

New Mexico – New Mexico will contribute hospital discharge information to a national database on health care research and policy analysis.

The state Department of Health and the New Mexico Health Policy Commission say the partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality also will provide them with information.

The national project maintains the largest U.S. collection of hospital care databases, allowing research on various health care issues.

The Health Policy Commission, a state agency established in 1991, provides independent research and recommendations on health policy issues for planning.

The commission's director and head of the Health Department's Division of Policy and Performance, Sam Howarth, says New Mexico will contribute valuable information because of its unique makeup of Hispanic and Native American populations.
