NM Water Power Research

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Sandia National Laboratories will receive more than $9 million over three years to develop advanced water power technologies under a Department of Energy competitive request.

Sandia will work in partnership with several national laboratories and academic institutions to lead two of the four topic areas awarded by DOE.

Sandia will lead a project to look at the cost-effectiveness and reliability of technology for wave, current and tide and thermal energy conversion and research to quantify the environmental impacts of marine technologies.

The manager of Sandia's wind and water power technologies group, Jose Zayas, says the lab will do fundamental research to develop and assess technology breakthroughs.

Zayas says that will help a vibrant industry that's just beginning.
